WHERE IT GOES
A Fastly Compute service that rewrites HTML before </body>
<script src="https://feedbackdots.com/widget.js" data-key="pk_…"></script>
QUICK ANSWER
To add FeedbackDots through Fastly, put a Fastly Compute service in front of your origin that streams HTML responses through an HTML rewriter and appends the FeedbackDots script to the end of <body>, then publish the service and purge the cache.
STEP BY STEP
How to install FeedbackDots on Fastly
- 01
Copy your FeedbackDots snippet
Create a free FeedbackDots project and copy the script tag from its install page. Your key is already in it.
- 02
Create a Compute service
Create a Fastly Compute service (the JavaScript starter works well) with your existing site as its backend.
- 03
Append the snippet to <body>
For text/html responses, stream the body through an HTML rewriter that appends the snippet to the end of <body>. Pass every other response through unchanged.
- 04
Publish and purge
Run fastly compute publish, purge cached HTML, then load the live site and confirm the launcher appears.
- 05
Allow your domain and test
Add your Fastly site’s domain to Allowed origins in project settings, then open the live site and submit a test report.
FASTLY TIPS
- In JavaScript, the fastly:html-rewriter module provides a streaming rewriter, so pages are not buffered in memory.
- Classic VCL services cannot rewrite response bodies, which is why this guide uses Compute.
- Skip the rewrite for non-HTML responses and for paths such as /api so JSON and assets are never touched.
WHAT YOU GET

FAQ
FeedbackDots for Fastly, answered.
Can I inject the script with Fastly VCL?
Not reliably. VCL can change headers but cannot edit HTML response bodies, so script injection needs a Fastly Compute service in front of, or instead of, your VCL service.
Do I need to change my origin server?
No. The Compute service fetches pages from your existing backend and adds the snippet on the way out. Your origin code stays the same.
Is FeedbackDots free to try?
Yes. The Starter plan is free to try with 1 seat, 25 tickets per month, and 1 domain, and no credit card is required. Starter includes the API and MCP server with up to 1,000 requests a month, and support is through the docs. The Pro plan is $49 per month for unlimited tickets, up to 10 seats, up to 3 domains, surveys and feature requests, integrations, and email support.
What does each feedback report include?
Each report includes the visitor’s note, an annotated screenshot, the page URL, console logs, device and browser details, and a session replay recorded by the widget.
Where do reports go?
Reports appear in your FeedbackDots dashboard. If you connect Linear or Slack in project settings, each new report can also open a Linear issue and post a Slack message with a link back to the full report.
